A MAN is fighting for his life in Southampton hospital following a brawl.

The 24-year-old from Gosport was seriously hurt in the fight between two groups.

He has been taken to Southampton General Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

Hampshire Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to the fight, which happened in Portsmouth.

Police say it involved around ten people following a disagreement on Clarence Esplanade between the hovercraft terminal and the public toilets at 8.50pm on Friday.

Two men aged 19 and 20 from Portsmouth have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm as part of this investigation.

They remain in police custody at this time.

Detective Sergeant Andy Lucas said: “We believe that there a number of people who were in the Clarence Esplanade area at the time who may have seen what happened.

"I’m keen to locate any witnesses who have not spoken to us already about this isolated incident.

“Please call us on 101, especially if you have mobile phone footage of the public order incident.

"Alternatively you can speak to one of the uniformed officers who will be patrolling the area over the weekend”.
