Robbed on the way back from the pub Robbed on the way back from the pub

A MAN was attacked by a gang of robbers as he walked through a village.

The 23-year-old was on his way back from a pub when a group of six people approached him in Wells Lane, Hamble.

At first they asked for a cigarette lighter before launching an assault which left the victim with bruising.

They stole £120 in cash during the attack, which happened while the man, from Essex, was walking back to the boat he was working on.

Police have launched an appeal for information about the incident, which took place at 8.10pm on Sunday, May 20.

One of the attackers was described as mixed race, no older than 18, 6ft, with an average build and wearing a light grey hoodie with the word ‘ECKO’ on the front.

Anyone with information should call DC Anthony Daniels at Eastleigh police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It must be pure coincidence that Well Lane is three minutes gentle stroll from the 'travellers' site in Ensign Way.

Hey ! Those horses at Wickham Fair - where'd they get all them from ?

My point is that, although travellers have an unfortunate reputation, they have as much right as anyone else to enjoy the "innocent until proven guilty" designation. Unreasonable assumptions got a lot of old women burned as witches a few centuries ago.

And I'll bet an old woman like you is glad not to have been born a few centuries ago.
