Plans for 75 new homes in Hampshire village (From Daily Echo)

all 75 should be affordable properties to help local kids stay in the area when they grow up.

I hope these houses will be built properly and be well designed.

I was really interested in buying a new home in the new Romsey development but it's awful. Crammed in overpriced houses with no attached garages or driveways for 2 cars in most instances, small gardens all overlooked and social housing with bigger plots neighbouring your new 300k semi detached, what a waste.

If your going to eat into greenbelt and expand villages like Swanmore atleast make a decent go at it.

The Salv, let me get this right, you dont want another housing estate full of cars, however you want a house with room for 2 cars on your drive way and the possibility of an additional one in the garage. Think your contradicting yourself there!!

I think the salv means he does not want an estate where everyone has to park on the road and fight for spaces as there are never enough spaces for everyone, most households these days have 2 or more cars and so a driveway is essential.

I'm with you on that. I had a look around the Eastleigh Lakeside development but, as with every other new build I've seen, you're on top on each other, cars litter the area and privacy doesn't appear to be an option. From a personal perspective, I don't see the attraction of new builds apart from the possibility of financial help from the builder. That said, they do seem to sell quickly so the demand is there.

The trouble is every developer wants to get as many houses on a piece of land as he can hence the stupid little narrow roads and tiny plots so no new development will give what the Salv wants but increase the budget to £350,000 + and maybe you will be in luck. Space is money but i do think that more provision should be made for cars, garages are rarely used for cars as they are too small and are also used to make up for lack of space in the home, also the modern cars have grown so much a little VW Polo is now the same size as a Golf used to be. But if you want space older properties are the answer.

and there lies the problem. The Govenment/Planning needs to set initiatives out so that you can have no more than x amount of houses in x amount of space. If it means subsidising the building sites to do it then that is the way forward.

This already exists ......... Its around 12 houses max per acre ( i think ).... but also depends on the words "houses or homes". You can build more than 12 homes ( 20 i think )

Not sure but i think that there are already limits laid down by councils as to minimum plot sizes and i think that the emphasis now is more on pack them in rather than space to breath. How would your subsidy scheme work ? if you can afford it you can have as much space as you like, the houses have got smaller with little tiny rooms and the plot it sits on is smaller so i if you was offered say a plot half as big again as a normal plot at an additional £50,000 would you go for it ? that would make a fairly average £250,000 house into a £300,000 house. You see over a whole site you can be talking about many extra houses and a great deal of money curtesy of those little plots and narrow roads.
