HUNDREDS of people in a Hampshire village are at their at their wits end with a constant broadband problem.

Residents of Whiteley near Fareham are becoming frustrated after struggling with an intermittent, poor or no connection to the internet at all.

The problem, which has lasted for ten years has seen the majority of residents in the village struggling to receive a connection speed of 1MB or less.

Among the other issues include sudden phone line dropouts and no digital service for televisions.

Michelle Perry, who lives in the village said: “It is quite unbelievable that to me that an urban area such as Whiteley cannot support its residents with an acceptable broadband service, yet more houses are planned here.

“It is absolutely disgraceful that this issue with broadband in Whiteley has remained unresolved for so many years.

“A good internet signal is a necessity for modern living, not a luxury.”

Another local resident who did not wish be named added: “It’s a complete sham, I have lived here for six years and am constantly fed up with the lack of suitable speeds.”

Suella Fernandes, MP for Fareham added: “People, families, and businesses in Whiteley are struggling on a daily basis just to get online.

“This frustrates residents and stops local businesses from growing and capitalising on online markets. In the digital era, this cannot go on.

“Service providers must step up their game and get this problem sorted. People really cannot go on living like this, so much of modern life revolves around good connectivity.”

In response, Hampshire County Council said it was looking to roll out superfast Broadband as part of the Broadband Delivery UK programme which will see 550 roadside broadband cabinets installed by September 2018, connecting an additional 34,000 homes in Hampshire.
