Whiteley Park Run celebrated its one year anniversary music and cakes today.

The run at Whiteley Meadowside is 5k in length and takes place every Saturday from 9.00am.

Avid runner Geoff Collins has been running for seven years, completing 288 park runs, and told the Daily Echo that he is delighted to celebrate the success story of the Whiteley Park Run since setting it up one year ago.

He said: “I am absolutely overwhelmed. When we first started we had less than 100 people but now we average out about 250 people per run.

“We have achieved this increase through word of mouth. Come rain or shine nothing will stop us, even on Christmas and New Year’s Day we will run.

“We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and it’s free.

“It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active.”

Children may send off for free t shirt on their tenth run. Geoff proudly wears his milestone “250 park runs” t-shirt every Saturday and is on his way to receiving his “300” one.
