2:21pm Friday 1st February 2013 in New Forest By Ed Stilliard, Senior Reporter
A MOTORIST was seriously injured after a pick-up truck and a car collided in Hampshire today.
Fire fighters were called to the scene at Long Lane in Holbury in the New Forest to cut out the motorist from the pick-up Ford Transit after a smash involving a blue Vauxhall vehicle at 12.36pm.
The driver complained of back pain and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have been despatched to the junction with Springfield Grove.
Traffic is building up in Long Lane which leads to Fawley and Calshot and diversions are in place.

HCC does nothing about reducing the speed limit of 40mph in this very built up and dangerous area....shops, school, pedestrians, cyclists, heavy traffic and an industrial area, slip road - it should be a 30mph and I am horrified to see that this road is not included in the new 20mph speed limit. If Challenger Way is 30mph and this road has nothing like the pedestrian, cyclists, shops etc. then this road definitely needs to have a speed reduction.

Luckily for them, they obviously have survived...
Having resided in Holbury previously for best part of 5 yrs, and have good knowledge of the road, for decades...
The problem, is usually either someone turning into a side road, and lacked patiences to wait, and more often, pulling out of the side road into the traffic, and failing to observe other cars coming... Or try to nip out when the space is too small to do so successfully...
The speed limit of 40mph along the road, is suitable, but cars positions themselves poorly on the wide junctions to observe properly, especially if they have come up on the junction to the main road, from the parallel side road

In this accident both vehicles involved were damaged to the drivers' side, one extensively damaged and was also damaged badly to the front - the guy was so lucky to get out of the vehicle with his life. The position of the cars made it difficult to comprehend what happened - unless of course they had been moved to allow vital, easier access to the drivers. Was dreadful to witness the aftermath and can only hope those involved make a full recovery and thoughts are with the family.
