Animals hit in accidents in New Forest

Animals hit in accidents Animals hit in accidents

ONE animal was killed and three others injured in a spate of accidents on New Forest roads.

A pony was badly hurt in a collision at Wilverley, near Brockenhurst, and had to be put down by one of the Agisters.

Another pony was injured on the C10 at Setley Pond, near Lymington, and a sheep was hurt on the B3079 at Bramshaw.

An Angus-cross heifer was injured in an accident on the Moyles Court to Linwood road at Appleshade.

Accidents also took place on the B3078 at Godshill Ridge and the B3054 at Hilltop, but no injured animals were found

More forest animals injured and killed by idiot drivers who persist in driving too fast on unfenced roads.
How many more animals are going to be killed before these idiots are dealt with more severely and made to compensate the owners for the loss of their animals and the cost of dealing with the aftermath of their actions
i think it is about time for a blanket 30mph speed limit on unfenced roads and harsher penalties for speeding in the forest.

i couldn't agree more Geoff until people learn that animals are roaming in the forest and drive accordingly there will be more deaths. Kill your speed not an animal. Some animals dont die right away and they should not have to suffer

How is a blanket 30 mph limit going to be any more effective than the 40 mph limit you claim is widely ignored ? When did you last read about someone being prosecuted for speeding on the forest and why do you think that is ? The commoners know that there is a chance that they will lose animals and no-one drives with the intention of wrecking their vehicle but animals and vehicles using the same roads will only ever result in one thing. It's not nice but it's inevitable.

Why not return all the New Forest roads to dirt tracks and gravel and get rid of all the tarmac. Then people will have to drive more slowly or have their cars pulverised in a few weeks.

Sounds like a plan!

If it cures the ills of the forest, it could be extended to the towns and cities where
there is a steady stream of deaths and injuries. Why not go the whole nine yards and stop motorway pile ups by ripping those up as well which could save lives and an amazing amount of money for the taxpayer. The only problem with this plan is that it would affect you as we'll.

Sounds like an even better plan!

I think you may review your answer when the 999 call for whichever emergency has enveloped you suggests that the response time will be 'within 90 minutes' because of the state of the roads but I guess you would be happy to watch your house burn to the ground or your nearest and dearest bleed to death while you patiently waited for help to arrive. The commoners that I know directly or through friends in the forest are quite philosophical about 'fallen stock' and you would probably find it disturbing to hear them say that they know fences would stop the accidents but they'd rather see their stock lying dead on the side of the road. It happens, accept it and worry about something you can change.
