Animal accidents in New Forest double in last year Animal accidents in New Forest double in last year

THE number of animal accidents in the New Forest has almost doubled compared with this time last year, it has been revealed.

Eighteen animals have been killed or injured on Forest roads since the start of January, nearly twice as many as the figure for the first few weeks of 2012.

Last year saw the lowest number of accidents since records began, but 2013 has got off to a bad start. The announcement was made at the monthly Court of Verderers, which urged drivers crossing the Forest to take extra care.

Sue Westwood, clerk to the Verderers, said 14 accidents occurred last month, more than twice the number recorded in February last year.

The total included four hit-and-run incidents.

Can the Verderers not use a similar scheme used around here whereby they are issued with speed cameras and the Police will follow up with a warning letter.

Something needs to be done. I often see cars using the roads as a race track.

Could you specify exactly which roads you see being used as a race track?

People need to be aware that there are animals in the new forest and need to take a bit of care, much better to kill your speed than an animal

What part of dont drive fast on any unfenced forest road do you not understand?
the New Forest and its animals are a gem in the otherwise over populated south of England and we must do everything we can to preserve it.
If that means having a blanket 30 mph speed limit all over the unfenced part of the forest then we may save a few animals from a needless and painful death.

Can I assume that you don't know which road(s) are used as a race track either? I'm sure a lot of people will be grateful for your brief explanation of the nature of the forest which you've shared with us without even being asked.

I am not interested in which roads are used as a race track as you seem to be, maybe you want to join in the carnage and would like directions to the correct racetrack.
My point despite your efforts at sarcasm is that no anmal should be killed unneccessarily through driving badly, too fast on unfenced roads.
If you think that is acceptable then maybe you should not have a driving license.

Your answers are of interest to somebody I'm sure, but I was trying to find out which roads are being used as race tracks. At the moment it seems to be yet another statement made for effect and it has pushed the right buttons in your case. I'm impressed by your ability to analyse and interpret my question before deciding I shouldn't be driving, a skill that the Police and judiciary could put to good use.
