Arrest in Jade Clark fatal crash investigation
10:06am Friday 22nd March 2013 in New Forest
POLICE investigating the crash that killed teenager Jade Clark have made an arrest in Kent and seized a Volvo XC90 vehicle.
The development comes on the same day Jade's funeral is due to take place.
After weeks of checking hundreds of vehicles, police have arrested the man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision.
Jade, 16, was struck by a Volvo XC90 as she rode her moped along the A31 near Ashley Heath at 8.23pm on Sunday, February 24.
A 58-year-old Kent man was arrested at an address in the Kent area yesterday morning and is currently helping police with their enquiries.
Inspector Matt Butler, of the Dorset Police Traffic Unit, said: “I can confirm that a man is in custody and is being questioned by investigators.
“His vehicle, a Volvo XC90, has been seized and this will now be forensically examined by specialists.
“I would like to thank the local community for their assistance in this investigation so far.
“I would, however, continue to urge anyone who believes they have information about this collision – and has yet to speak with police – to come forward.”
In a joint investigation between the Force’s Major Crime Investigation Team and the Traffic Unit, officers had launched an extensive search for a Volvo XC90 registered between 2003 and 2007. More than 950 vehicles were eliminated by investigators prior to this development. An inquest into Jade Clark’s death was formally opened and adjourned on Monday, March 4, at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court.
Evidence was heard that Jade died as a result of a severe head injury.
