Carnival lights up forest village
12:50pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in New Forest
THE streets of a Hampshire village were gripped in carnival fever yesterday.
More than 2,000 people lined the streets as a glittering parade made its way through Brockenhurst in glorious sunshine.
The procession, which included half a dozen floats and an array of dancers, began at St Saviour’s Church and made its way to Brockenhurst College sports field, where the vast majority of people watched and cheered.
It wasn’t just the carnival that people enjoyed. Brockenhurst College sports field staged a fun day, which saw people take to the sky in a helicopter, while a jazz band played live music as well as various performances throughout the day.
The organisers of the event, the Lions Club of Lymington and Brockenhurst, said that it raised more than £3,000 to help good causes in the area and treasurer Martin Ward said: “It’s been very successful. We have had a field full of people and more than 2,000 people here.
“It is all about keeping the community spirit alive. We want to give a big thank you for all the people that have come along and donated so generously by giving different prizes and vouchers.”
