Fundraisers bike and hike for hospice
11:50am Tuesday 8th October 2013 in New Forest
HIKERS and bikers joined forces to raise thousands of pounds for a Hampshire hospice.
More than 350 people put their best foot forward or jumped in the saddle for the annual Bike and Hike event in aid of Oakhaven in Lymington.
Cyclists completed courses of 10, 15 or 30km, while those on foot trekked either a three, six or ten-mile route, all converging on Hollands Wood campsite, near Brockenhurst.
In 14 years the event has raised £350,000 for the hospice providing specialist palliative care and support for people facing life-limiting illnesses. Mike Denny, Oakhaven head of fundraising, said: “This event would not be able to go ahead if it wasn’t for the volunteers who marshal the event, so a massive thanks goes out to them for helping to make this happen.”
