AN elderly woman had to be cut free from her car after being involved in an accident this afternoon which has led to the closure of a Hampshire road.

A Mercedes car involved in a head-on collision with an HGV on the A35 at Lyndhurst just after 12pm.

A third 4x4 vehicle, in which the elderly woman was travelling, was also involved in the accident.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 12.11pm after reports that people were trapped in the wreckage.

Police were on the scene diverting traffic whilst firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service worked to rescue the casualties from the vehicles.

According to police three people with minor injuries were treated. Motorists were warned to avoid the area whilst the diversion is in place.

The road reopened at 4.30pm.
