A HAMPSHIRE teenager is determined to give back to the charity which helped her cope with a medical condition.

Becky Stanton was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease three years ago.

The 18-year-old was working towards her GCSEs at Noadswood School when she started having excruciating stomach pain.

There is currently no cure for the chronic condition which causes inflammation of the digestive system, and has side effects like stomach ulcers, abdominal pain, fatigue and nausea.

Becky suffers from all of these symptoms as well as arthritis and last year she had to have surgery to remove part of her bowel – stopping her dream to become a policewoman.

But now the dinner lady from Hythe wants to give back to a charity which has supported her by completing a five-kilometre sponsored walk through the New Forest this month.

Crohn’s and Colitis UK supports, funds and researches to help people with any form of Irritable Bowel Disorder, and they have experienced advisers on the telephone who sufferers like Becky can call any time for help and advice.

She said: “I was devastated when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s. I don’t feel like a teenager any more.

It makes you grow up very quickly.

“Whenever I’m having a bad day and my stomach is really hurting I just phone up Crohn’s and Colitis UK and chat until I feel OK. They are amazing.”

Becky is determined to make it – even if she has to complete the five kilometres in a wheelchair.

She said: “I’ll be there somehow.

This is a really good cause and every penny helps. They have helped me so much and now it’s my turn to help them.”
