BOMB disposal experts were called to a Hampshire beauty spot last night after a suspected explosive was found washed up on the shoreline.

Solent Coastguard was called to Calshot Spit after the head of a shell washed up on the beach 50 metres from Calshot Camping and Caravan Club.

Members of Solent Coastguard set up a cordon at the headland after a member of the public found the explosive at about 7.50pm last night.

No other emergency services were called to the scene but bomb disposal experts from Didcot were called in.

The situation was eventually shut down at about 10.50pm after officers located the shell and made the scene safe.

It was eventually found to be an inert object.
