A FORMER Saints star was on hand to meet some possible sports stars of the future at a school awards night.

Norwegian international Jo Tessem presented the prizes at The Inspire Learning Federation’s first annual Sports Awards Ceremony.

The federation, which consists of Blackfield Primary and Fawley Infant Schools, had enjoyed great sporting success in 2014/15.

The Year 6 boys football team won the New Forest football League and Southampton schools cup, the Year 1 and 2 tennis team won gold at the New Forest Tennis Tournament and there were also tournament victories in badminton and hockey and individual and team successes in cross country.

Fifty-five nominees arrived at the black tie event with their parents to find out who the winners in 11 categories.

Awards:

Young Team of the Year: Year 1&2 Tennis Team - Sonny Lovel, Matthew Gregory, Alex Balson and Daniel Bailey

Unsung Hero: Molly McCloy, goalkeeper who saved three out of five spot kicks in a penalty shoot-out to secure a bronze medal for her team

Attitude to competition: Jack Ward

Best Team Attitude: Year 6 girls Netball – winning a Silver medal in final competition of the year and supporting each other consistently. Team:  Izzy House, Lily Simmonds, Phoebe Ward, Sian Langdale, Miami Bartlet and Hannah Chance

Team of the Year: Year 6 Boys Football - Denny Renyard, Brandon Lane, Marcus Round, Daniel Gregory(c), Kieran Lawrence, Logan McDermott, James Elkins (vc), John Lovell and Alfie Markham.

Outstanding Individual Performance: Madison McDermott – won gold at New Forest Cross Country Competition beating 125 other runners.

Young Sportswoman: Hilda Panford - Best long jump at the outdoor athletics event (1.6m) and finishing in top 20 of cross Country.

Young Sportsman: Sonny Lovell – Member of gold medal-winning Year 1&2 Tennis team, a bronze medal winner with the Year 1&2 Hockey team and tenth out of a field of 109 at the New Forest Cross Country competition.

Sportswoman: Phoebe Ward – represented school at six sports, winning a gold in Badminton and silver medals in Table Tennis and Netball

Sportsman of the Year: Logan McDermott – made appearances across seven sports including football with the triumphant Year 6 team and also won silver medals in Table Tennis and Cross Country, and a bronze in athletics.

There was no winner in the Parent Volunteer of the Year category but Jenny Robinson, Daniel Gregory and Kirsty Lane were singled out for the support they had given staff in taking children to competitions.
