WORLD darts champion Scott Mitchell is set to score another bullseye – by becoming a judge at next week’s New Forest and Hampshire County Show.

The 45-year-old farmer from Bransgore has agreed to judge the best of British beef at the show, which begins at New Park, Brockenhurst, on Tuesday.

Scott shot to fame earlier this year after winning the British Darts Organisation world championship at Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey.

As reported in the Daily Echo, he held his nerve to land the title with a nail-biting 7-6 win over Martin Adams.

Scott had won only two matches on his previous five visits to Lakeside but stayed calm in the face of stiff competition from the three-time champion to scoop the £100,000 prize.

He immediately pledged to buy his dad Jeff, 67, a new tractor and duly kept his promise a few weeks later.

The Hampshire darts ace is likely to be mobbed by fans when he arrives at New Park on the second day of the three-day extravaganza.

Jenny Dolbear, the show’s livestock secretary, said: “We’re sure that Scott Mitchell will score a bullseye when he joins the panel of beef judges. The worthy winners are certain of a high score.

“It’s been a record year for livestock entries with the cattle tent being bigger than ever before.”

Another top attraction at the Daily Echo-backed show will be Jura, a crowned hawk eagle that will form part of a display by CJ’s Birds of Prey.

Daily Echo: Charlotte Hill and her dad John will be displaying birds of prey at the show

Charlotte Hill and her dad John, from Cambridgeshire, are regarded as one of the best birds of display teams in the UK.

More than 95,000 spectators from across the south are expected to visit the show.

The event boasts a large number of shops and more than 600 trade stands but has always stayed true to its rural roots.

This year the huge showground will once again include the Countryside Area, where visitors can take part in fly fishing and other activities.

Arena events will include a twice-daily appearance by the Household Cavalry, which will stage its world famous Musical Ride.

One of this year’s sponsors is Hampshire developer Pennyfarthing Homes, which is supporting the event for the fourth time.

Managing director Matt Dukes said: “The New Forest Show is a showcase of the area we are all proud to live and work in.”
