A HAMPSHIRE mum who organised a charity fundraiser for sick children has been charged with fraud, the Daily Echo can reveal.

Karolin Jones is due to appear in court to face the allegations after she was charged with two counts of fraud by false representation.

The charges relate to allegedly using a charity number to raise money but not passing that money on to the charity.

In August 2013, 28-year-old Jones held a charity fundraiser to improve facilities at Southampton General Hospital.

The event took place in the Marchwood area of Southampton, at the Lloyd Recreation Ground in Main Road.

The family event saw thousands descend on the recreation ground for a fun-d ay that involved fun fair rides, a bouncy castle, face painting, stalls and crafts.

There will also be an arena where people were entertained by a choir along with Zumba and karate demonstrations. People were also encouraged to dress up in hospital themed fancy dress.

In December 2013 she also hosted a second charity event at a soft play centre at the Vine Inn in Ower, Romsey which saw a raffle and tombola staged.

The money was allegedly being raised for Southampton General Hospital with the aim of purchasing a television for each bay in all seven wards that make up the children’s unit.

Last night Hampshire Police confirmed that Jones had been charged with two counts of fraud by false representation.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Police said: “The person is alleged to have used a charity number to raise money for charity but they were never paid between August 31, 2013 and June 10, 2014.”

Jones, of Ordnance Way, Marchwood, will appear at Southampton Magistrates Court next month to face the charges.
