HOUSEHOLDS are warned about a suspicious telephone caller with a foreign accent claiming to be from a Hampshire town council.
Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Service said they are receiving reports of Hampshire residents, particularly in the New Forest area, taking a call from someone wishing to talk about a recent accident.
The caller has a foreign accent and is claiming to be calling on behalf of Ringwood Town Council.
The telephone number being used is 02081449532 and the call is being regarded as a scam or phishing attempt.
Ringwood Town Council have confirmed that they do not employ or contract any other business or organisation to work on their behalf.
Anyone receiving an unsolicited telephone call of this type are advised not to continue the conversation, not to give any personal information and not to call the number back.
