A DRAMATIC rescue took place in Hampshire this afternoon when a woman had to be pulled from sinking mud.

Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a field near the Happy Cheese pub in Ashurst after the woman got stuck.

Two crews from Redbridge were sent to the scene along with a specialist unit to Lyndhurst Road.

It took more than an hour for emergency services to rescue her.

The woman, who is believed to be 49, did not sustain any injuries after getting trapped at about 1pm.

A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service said: "She was stuck in the mud up to her knees. Once she was freed she didn't require further treatment."

It is the second time in less than a week that fire fighters were sent to the area after a fire broke out opposite the pub in a flat above a hair salon, leading to the death of one man in a flat fire.

A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It wasn’t a severe incident but we always err on the side of caution and sent out three crews.”
