WEATHER warnings for rain and wind have been issued for Hampshire today, with at least one road blocked due to a fallen tree.

The Met Office has forecast heavy rain and high winds for the South throughout today and issued yellow weather warnings.

The agency says there may even be severe gales and a risk of flooding.

A huge tree has fallen and blocked a country road in Hampshire as strong winds batter the county.

Kennel Lane in Littleton, near Winchester, was cut off at lunchtime.

No one was hurt but the tree is still being cleared.

Resident Matthew Storey said: “Although it's not a busy road, if any car had been hit by the tree I'm sure there would be serious injuries.”

Traffic disruption is minimal as Kennel Lane is near the village’s main road.

Red Funnel says its services are currently running as normal, but says that weather delays are "likely" today and on Monday as a result of the conditions.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for both wind and rain, with the forecast saying: "20-30 mm of rain is expected quite widely across the warning area with 50-70 mm on south-facing slopes.

"Southerly gales or severe gales are expected with gusts of 40-50 mph inland and locally 65 mph over higher ground and south-facing coasts.

"As this rain will be falling on near-saturated ground, please be aware of the risk of localised flooding and perhaps some disruption to travel.

"Southerly winds with strengthen this morning across southern and then many eastern and central parts of England with gales developing, which are likely to be severe at times along English Channel coasts.

"Winds should steadily decrease from the west this evening. Please be aware of possible disruption to travel."
