THERE were problems on the road for AFC Totton in more ways than one last night!

The Stags may have left Shortwood United feeling slightly short-changed with a 5-3 loss, but the club's issues had started before even making it to Meadowbank.

Their team coach became the talk of the Gloucestershire town of Nailsworth after blocking the main road to the ground for at least four hours when the driver got it stuck trying to turn a tight corner, writes Talia Jones.

Manager Steve Hollick and his players had to walk the final mile down the winding roads to the ground.

The driver of the Airlynx Express coach eventually managed to free it at around 9.45pm with the assistance of locals, the police and a towing vehicle!

On the pitch, Shortwood went into the break with a 1-0 lead after Nick Humphreys had headed the ball past Steve Mowthorpe while the rest of the Totton defence argued over a previous incident.

The second half was far more eventful with Shortwood scoring two quick headers, both from corners, to go 3-0 up in the first five minutes.

Then the Totton fightback began.

Dylan Knight’s inch-perfect through-ball to Neil Williams gave the midfielder the opportunity to guide it into the far corner and it quickly became 3-2 when Mike Gosney cut through the Shortwood midfield and crossed for Nathaniel Sherborne to score.

The Stags’ comeback was completed when Williams was awarded a penalty after being fouled by incoming goalkeeper Tom King. Gosney’s crisp finish from the spot looked like earning the away side at least a point with 15 minutes left.

But two wonder strikes from Shortwood’s Jake Lee and Nick Peare put the Southern One South & West game to bed late on.
