HUNDREDS of people turned out in Lymington today to catch a glimpse of a giant water slide.

The 105m inflatable spanned almost the length of the High Street and saw dozens of men, women and children slip their way down for charity.

It is hoped the event - a first for the town - will raise more than £6,000 for Oakhaven Hospice.

Organiser Jill West said: "It has been absolutely brilliant. The atmosphere and the amount of people coming out, in spite of the weather, it has been a proper community event and they are all absolutely loving it.

"I need to mention Fred Olsen Travel Agents - without them this wouldn't have been possible.

"All their staff are here, their team were the first to go on and then have given out goody bags.

"I also need to thank the team of 84 volunteers helping me today. They have all turned up and done really well.

"To have that many is phenomenal and I can't thank them enough."
