A NEW project in Hampshire is giving young people with no mechanic skills the opportunity to restore a car.
Students have been challenged to restore a 1999 Ford Fiesta Ghia to MOT stand-
ard using iconic Haynes Manuals.
The group, who have had no previous mechanical training, are between 14 and 17.
Organised by the Dibden Youth Club, the students will spend five months working on the vehicle, learning new transferable skills.
All of the participants are working towards Institute of the Motor Industry qualifications in car mechanics and personal development level three.
They will learn essential car maintenance activities, such as changing a wheel, maintaining fluid levels in a car, checking car lights, replacing spark plugs, checking and bleeding the braking system and understanding and carrying out practical MOT test procedures.
If this scheme is successful the youth club hope to offer more schemes for young people in the area.
