MYSTERY surrounds the death of a Hampshire man whose body was found in a Hampshire supermarket car park.

The 35-year-old from Gosport is yet to be named following the discovery at Asda in Totton on Wednesday morning.

But Hampshire police has confirmed it is not treating the death as suspicious.

The discovery came just days after another man was found dead, near Calmore Community Centre, about two miles away.

Officers were called to the scene on Wednesday, in Maynard Road, at 2.20am and immediately cordoned off a large section of the car park and set up a blue and white tent.

They stayed on site for most of the morning, with forensic investigators combing the area for clues.

Shocked locals woke up to the incident, some while making their regular trip to the store.

Jennifer Smith, of Totton, expressed her shock at the discovery of the body. “My thoughts are with the family of the person who has died. What a terrible tragedy.”

Shopper Tom Carr, added: “I saw the cordon and didn’t know what had happened. The fact a body has been discovered really brings it home as I only live around the corner.”

George Dylan, 76, said he was horrified to see police activity in the car park on his morning trip to buy a paper.

“It was quite a shock; it is not something you expect to see,” he added.

The store opened as usual at 7am.

A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the car park at 2.25am, but were unable to provide additional details as the investigation was ongoing.

A file is being prepared for the coroner and next of kin have been informed.
