A HAMPSHIRE town will resemble the millionaires’ playground of Monaco today as teams battle it out in the Hoburne Pedal Car Grand Prix.

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets of New Milton to watch a colourful collection of homemade vehicles take part in the annual spectacle.

Station Road and other streets in the town centre will be closed to traffic to enable the two-hour competition to take place.

A race spokesman said: “New Milton offers all the excitement of a street circuit with an authentic Monaco feel.”

Practice sessions start at 1pm, with the race itself beginning an hour later.

The event forms part of the New Milton Town Show, which starts today with a classic car show at the recreation ground.

All the activities have been organised by the New Milton Jubilee Fund.
