A MAN who had taken a number of drugs before behind the wheel has been spared jail.
Connor Leggatt pleaded guilty to have a number of substances in his system, including cocaine and cannabis, whilst out driving on April 8 along the A35 Totton Bypass.
Southampton Magistrates' Court was told that although the 25-year-old had not touched any drugs for four-days, a “significant” amount must have been taken when he last took the drugs.
In a probation report read out at court, it said Leggatt had lost his job in fencing following his arrest and he was once a “promising” boxer.
Leggatt’s defence said he was “remorseful” for his actions but used the drug only “recreationally”.
Sentencing, District Judge Lorraine Morgan said: “The level of drugs you used must have been significant for it to remain in your system for four days.
“You were a danger to yourself and to other road users.”
Leggatt, of Brighton Road, Southampton, was given a 12-month community order and disqualified from driving for 15-months.
He must also carry out 120-hours of unpaid work.
Leggatt was ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.
