A HAMPSHIRE woman who suffered from dementia died following a fall at her home.

Doreen Major, 89, was found at her home in Brook Avenue North, New Milton.

Ms Major, who had been living on her own, was not responding to her family’s phone calls on the morning of May 25 this year, so her daughter visited the address.

Ms Major was found lying on her bedroom floor and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by an ambulance with a fractured hip.

While in hospital, Ms Major was given antibiotics for a chest infection, but her condition gradually deteriorated. She was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital on June 7.

Coroner Graham Short concluded that the chest infection may not have been the cause of the fall, but the consequent operation was an added burden on her body.

Mr Short recorded a verdict of accidental death.
