THOUSANDS took part in the New Forest Marathon on Sunday.

Beginning at the New Forest Showground at New Park, Brockenhurst, the circular route follows woodland trails through Ober Water and Wilverley Inclosure as well as the villages of Brockenhurst and Sway.

This year’s event had seven different routes for runners to tackle, from a ten-mile Nordic walk to a full 26.2-mile marathon.

First place in the marathon went to William Goozee, of the Isle of Wight Road Runners, with a time of 02:47:44. Steve Osborne, of Run4allRC, came first in the half marathon with a time of 01:12:44, while Matt Risden of Hedge End RC won the 10k with a time of 36:54. the 5k was won by Daniel Zurynek (Kubler Racing All Stars) in 21:24.

The annual event has raised more than £1.2 million for good causes in the New Forest since it began in 1983 last years event raised £3991 raised for the New Forest Community Fund.

The Race originally started in New Milton but moved to its current home in Brokenhurst in 2015 after its former organiser had to cancel the event in 2014 due to financial difficulties.
