Classic way to toast marina

8:50am Thursday 2nd September 2010

A FLOTILLA of classic boats will take part in a sail-past as part of the anniversary celebrations for a Hampshire waterside development.

Crowds are expected to line the shore at Hythe Marina Village, which was completed 25 years ago this month.

A fleet of 25 historic patrol and rescue vessels will reenact the moment boats first entered the marina in 1985.

The free event, which is open to all at 10am on September 19, is part of a weekend of entertainment to mark the anniversary.

It will be accompanied by live music and commentary while the waterside will be lined with exhibits and amusements for all the family.

Residents and berth holders are being invited to an evening party the night before, which will include a buffet dinner, live music and dancing.

The celebrations have been organised by marina owners MDL.

The development includes more than 200 boat berths and 220 waterside homes and, having been built on reclaimed land, was the first marina village in the UK.
