Mum punched by burglars in Totton

Mum punched by armed burglars Mum punched by armed burglars

A MOTHER has told police how she was punched in the face by two burglars one of whom was carrying a gun.

The 35-year-old woman who was at home at the time with her baby answered the door to two men dressed in fluorescent jackets sometime between 9am and 9.45am today.

In their bid to get in the detached property on Testwood Lane in Totton they punched the woman in the face leaving her with facial injuries.

She told police how she thought one of them was armed with a handgun. It is understood they then stole cash from the house and fled.

Police were called to the property soon after and have sealed of the address. Dog units and uniformed patrols have also been scrambled in a bid to find those responsible for the attack.

The woman is being taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

Detective Inspector Fiona Bitters said: “This is a very rare incident in this area and we have a number of officers carrying out enquiries.

"We are trying to piece together the offender’s movements and would like to hear from anyone in Testwood Lane who has CCTV installed at their house or business premises, or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious either this morning or in the last few days.

“We are keen to identify a white transit van that was seen near the address around the time of the incident, and was heading towards Salisbury Road.

“I’d like to reassure local residents that though we are still in the early stages of this investigation we are taking this very seriously and have committed a number of resources to identifying the men responsible as quickly as possible.”

Anyone with any information should call Southampton Central police station on 101 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I'm thinking much the same thing.

Whilst such an unprovoked assault would be very disturbing (and not just for the victim) it doesn't really fit the pattern of household burglaries.

Still, maybe I'm just too cynical. I hope the woman makes a full recovery and that the perpetrators of this act are caught.

They seemed to know that there was cash in the house. It was also brutal that they hit the young mother and very audacious to still carry on knowing there was someone home.

I saw all the police cars when I was at school and it was really weird. Every one kept saying someone was stabbed. It was really scary. I hope they catch the men who did it and put them in jail.

This story seems to have been updated, because I didn't notice anything about firearms originally.

Now THAT is really out of the ordinary. I look forward to hearing the rest of the story in due course.

You look forward to hearing the rest of the story in due course? I look forward to the day that crimes such as this cease to even be in existence. This is a dreadful crime in a really nice residential area and right by a secondary school. I really hope that the lady concerned and her child recover quickly from this dreadful incident. It's a real shame that some people just see this story as something to look forward to the next episode of.

No, that isn't the case. I've already expressed my concern for the woman above.

But it isn't every day that we have burglaries involving firearms- this makes it a very unusual case. It's a news story, and I fully intend to follow it. If only to remind myself not to buy a house in Totton.

You are so missing the point. Waste of ink time! It rarely happens in Totton, I just hope they catch the heartless 'men'. No one mentioned the fact she had child with her. Hope it doesn't leave mental scars for it.

I'm with Goldenwright on this. Clearly more to it. The house appears to have been targeted on purpose, possibly to settle some sort of debt!!

It was a "suspected " firearm. Not confirmed.
Also don't buy a house in Southampton because a firearm was actually used at the weekend. Nor buy a house in Chandlers Ford where a few years ago police marksmen shot dead two people during an armed robbery

Goldenwight- you might want to be a little more compassionate before casting 'this story' off as a soap opera. As for not buying a house in Totton, I take it that you reside in a completely crime free neighbourhood?
