A MAN is due in court this morning charged with raping a 55-year-old woman while she was out walking in the New Forest.

The incident happened around 9am on Sunday in Ashurst, close to the railway line.

As reported, police said they the woman managed to raise the alarm following the ordeal by calling 999 on her mobile.

A man was arrested soon after following a thorough search of the area.

Timothy Stephen Foster, 26, of no fixed abode, is charged with two offences of rape and one further offence of sexual assault. He will appear before magistrates in Southampton.
