A PENSIONER is fighting for life in hospital after being knocked down as she crossed a busy Hampshire road.

As reported, the 80-year-old woman from Lyndhurst was struck by a Ford Ka near the junction of Gosport Lane and High Street in the village on Wednesday.

She sustained serious injuries, which have since become life threatening.

She being treated for her injuries at Southampton General Hospital, where police today said she is in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Ka, a 68-year-old woman from Lyndhurst, was shaken but uninjured.

The junction of Gosport Lane and High Street was closed until 7.34pm while collision investigators examined the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision are to call PC Mike Batten at Totton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Manorside.
