THE CYCLIST who died after the bike he was riding was struck by a car in the New Forest has been named as Mark Brummell.

The 53-year-old from Atherley Road, Southampton suffered serious injuries at the scene of the accident at Ipley and died later at Southampton General Hospital.

According to police he was in collision with a Renault Scenic at the Ipley crossroads in the village at 6.15pm, last night.

The 59-year-old male driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact the Operation Sarum investigation team on the 101 number.

Sergeant Andy Lynch, from the Road Death Investigation team at Eastleigh, said: “Mr Brummell was treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to Southampton General Hospital where sadly he later passed away.

“I'm appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with information who can help. I'd like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or either the Megane or the cyclist prior to it.”
