A Hampshire library has been saved after it was handed over to be run by volunteers.

Council chiefs have announced that North Baddesley library will remain open, after transferring the running of the service to Friends of North Baddesley Library.

The Willis Avenue site had been in danger of being replaced by a mobile library, amid council cuts to the service.

But Hampshire County Council’s culture and recreation boss, Cllr Keith Chapman, has now approved plans for the group to run the site.

Civic chiefs have pledged to continue working with the group, by providing books and supporting the volunteers in the library.

The new arrangement will take effect from March 31 next year.
