This smartly-dressed group of people look as though they have stepped out of the 1940s – and the poster at the back of the photograph indicates it was taken during the Second World War.
It advertises Salute The Soldier Week – a national fundraising week held in 1944 to help equip the British army.
The initiative encouraged patriotic people across the country to save their money in Government accounts such as War Bonds, Defence Bonds and Savings Certificates.
The campaign prompted a whole host of fund-raising events, including parades and exhibitions, in villages and towns up and down the country.
Salute the Soldier Week was one of a number of wartime campaigns across Britain to boost morale and raise money. Other efforts included War Weapons Week, Warship Week and Wings for Victory.
The photograph appears to be in front of the King’s Hall, Ilkley.
