A MAN suffered head and neck injuries when he was in collision with a car on a Hampshire road.

Police say the man was struck as he crossed the road at the junction of Palmerston Street with The Hundred in Romsey around 1.15pm this afternoon.

Sergeant Daren Standen said the unnamed man who is believed to be in his 70s or 80s suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The victim who comes from the Romsey area also had leg injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Before he was removed from the scene a South Central Ambulance put a neck brace on him.

“He was lying in the middle of Palmerston Street when I arrived,” said Sergeant Standen, who added that the male car driver involved in the accident was breathalysed at the scene and the result was negative.

Appealing for witnesses Sergeant Standen said: “People nearby said they heard a bang but didn't see anything. We'd like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.”
