DOZENS of homes are without power around Hampshire after overnight storms wreaked havoc and prevented a school from opening.

Thirty residents in Burridge have been left with no electricity after a tree came down on Curdridge Lane, Curdridge in last night's bad weather.

Southern Electric confirmed that a tree branch had come down in the local area hitting overhead power lines at around 2am.

Engineers are at the scene working and power should be restored around 1.30pm.
Other areas affected by power outages include Totton, Bartley, Bramshaw, Cadnam, Colbury, Copythorne, Fritham, Marchwood, Netley Marsh, Stoney Cross where a total of 52 customers are affected after power went out at around 2am and should be restored by 3pm.

Another power fault has been reported at Braishfield, Hursley and Standon, where power was lost at 8.30am with at least nine homes affected and power should be back on by 3.30pm.

In Ampfield, Curdridge, North Baddesley and Nutburn, near Romsey residents reported loss of electricity shortly before midnight, with 55 homes affected as Nporth Baddesley Infants school remained shut today as a result.

Southern Electric said power should be restored by 2.30pm.

Residents north of Winchester in Broughton, Longstock, Stockbridge and reported a fault around 6.30am and power has been restored.

A second fault was reported in the similar area around Stockbridge at 6.40am and power is now back on.

A spokesperson for Southern Electric said: “Engineers are out in the field repairing the damage caused by the weather and we're sorry for any outage of power.

“We're doing all we can to get them back on.”

They added: “We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”
