A HAMPSHIRE grandmother-of-four is celebrating after completing a 1,000 mile bike ride in aid of cancer charities.

Ali Rosen from Romsey teamed up friends Michael Cape and Terry Moody to cycle from Land's End to John O’Groats.

The 58-year-old did the two-week ride in a year of fundraising for the Women Versus Cancer Cycle Africa ride in Tanzania which she will try in October.

Terry did it in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, while Michael Cape raised money for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.

Ali is set to join more than 30 women on the fifth Women v Cancer cycle in Tanzania in October, which will see her cycle from Mount Kilimanjaro through three national parks to Ngorongoro Crater.

The cause is close to her s heart as her dad was former Saints player Ken Wilkins, known as Ken Caisley, who died of throat cancer in 1997 aged 64.

She hopes that both rides will raise more than £4,000 to be split between three cancer charities. She described the Land's End to John O'Groats trip as amazing with "amazing people" along the way.

“I hope that our journey has proved that you can do anything if you set your mind to it and has helped raise funds for our respective Cancer charities.’’
