COUNCILLORS in Hampshire have approved more than £100m of cutbacks that will see 450 jobs axed.

‎County chiefs said they must make £220m of savings by 2020 with Hampshire facing "significant financial pressure" from cuts to its grants from Central Government.

More than £50m will come from the adult service budget alone in the plans approved today at full council, which will be in effect by 2019.

In total 454 jobs will be lost although Conservative council bosses say they will try their utmost to keep compulsory redundancies to a minimum.

More details on where the cuts will fall are due before the council sets it's budget in February.
