Crowds gathered at Southampton Cenotaph to pay their respects to all those who have served in conflicts across the globe.

Hundreds of people made their way to Watts Park where the crowds stood in sombre reflection remembering all those who fought and died for their country.

The service, led by the Rector of Southampton, Dr Julian Davies, saw families head to the city centre for the annual Remembrance Day service.

Community leaders, representatives of the armed forces, and faith leaders all joined the service and laid wreaths for those who died.

City Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Linda Morris was stopped to take breath when she was caught up in the emotion introducing the event.

“At this annual ceremony we remember those who have died and given sacrificially of their lives in conflicts, and give thanks for deliverance from war,” she said.

“We pray for people who continue to suffer because of war and also pray for our forces and their families.”
