A woman is fighting for her life after being knocked down in a hit and run.

The 23-year-old is in a life threatening condition after she was struck by a white Nissan Micra yesterday.

She was walking down Tutts Lane towards Groves Down in West Wellow, near Romsey, at the time of the incident.

Police were called out before 1.45pm to the scene where the young woman was seriously injured in the collision.

She was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with a serious head injury and her condition is described as life threatening.

The white Nissan Micra failed to stop after the incident and enquiries are being carried out to try and locate the driver and establish what happened.

The car was later found in the Calmore area and is being examined.

Police were unable to provide more details when asked by the Daily Echo.
