THE film is about 'Robots in Disguise' but it was two instantly recognisable Hollywood heavyweights who drew the crowds to a waterfront location in Hampshire.

Action hero Mark Wahlberg and silver screen legend Sir Anthony Hopkins received a heroes' welcome as they touched down to beginning filming the highly anticipated new sequel Transformers: The Last Knight.

Dozens of people crammed outside the gates of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport to watch stars, supercars and a film crews arrive for the shooting of the fifth film in the blockbuster series inspired by the children's toy.

The appearance of the two Hollwood A-listers comes after star Matt Le Blanc was also seen in the county at Swanwick Marina where he was believed to be filming an episode of the BBC's Top Gear.

Excitement built as Wahlberg - who plays Cade Yeager, a single father and struggling inventor - and other actors arrived.

A yellow Chevrolet and black Lamborghini - starring as autobots Bumblebee and Hot Rod respectively - arrived on the site and at one point were seen racing each other along a stretch of road.

But the closest thing to a giant robot was a black 4X4 with a camera mounted on a huge mechanical arm - while a drone was also seen hovering overhead.

Photographer Paul Jacobs who snapped the action unfolding said thatMr Wahlberg was unable to stop and chat with fans but that Sir Anthony briefly talked with the crowds and posed for photographs with them.

Mr Jacobs added: "People have been here from first thing in the morning until late at night and there are people of all ages who are interested in the actors and the cars.

"At one point the police had to be called because some of the fans were parking on double yellow lines.

"The filming crew was a huge outfit with RVs and rest areas.

The film - directed by Michael Bay - is set to be released in June next year and also stars Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson.

It is the sequel of the 2014 movie 'Transformers: Age of Extinction'.
