A WOMAN was left lying unconscious with a fractured skull after a burglar hit her over the head at her home.

The 39-year-old woman was attacked with a 'crowbar-type-implement', police say, after two men broke into her home off the A36 Salisbury Road in West Wellow between 4am and 5am on Friday.

She was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with a fractured skull and a cut on her head.

The two men fled the scene in a burgundy 4x4, which police believe may have been used in a number of other burglaries in the area, after being confronted by the victim’s partner.

Officers are now appealing for information to track down the two men, who have been described as white, in their 20s and both wore hooded tops. One of the men was described as being around 6ft tall, and the other of skinny build.

Detective Sergeant Will Whale said: “This was a disturbing assault in which a lady sustained a serious injury.

“We have started an investigation and are following lines of enquiry, but we would like to hear from anybody who was awake at this time and noticed anything suspicious.

“Do you remember seeing a burgundy 4x4-type vehicle in West Wellow at around this time? If so, get in touch.

“We believe this car has been used in a series of burglaries in the surrounding area.”

Anyone with information on this incident or any others involving a similar vehicle are being urged to call police on 101 quoting 44170238827, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
