Schoolgirl attacked by man in North Baddesley

Girl, 11, attacked on way home from school Girl, 11, attacked on way home from school

A CHILD was assaulted by a man who got out a van as she walked home from school.

The 11-year-old girl had just got off her bus and was making her way along Bracken Road, in North Baddesley near to its junction with Rownhams Lane when she became aware of a white van driving slowly beside her.

She turned around and saw the two men inside were staring at her.

She started to run off as she was frightened, police said.

But the passenger in the van then got out and ran up beside her- shoving her to the ground.

He then got back in the van before driving off.

The girl was not badly hurt but police say they are appealing for witnesses to find those responsible for this unusual attack which left the girl shocked.

The men are both described as black. The passenger was in his 30s and was about 5ft 9 inches tall and of medium to large build with long black platted hair and a pony tail. He had some sort of cut or scratch down the left side of his face and was wearing a black tracksuit and hooded top.

The driver was a little older but similar in height and build, He was wearing a black top and had slightly shorter hair but also had a pony tail.

It happened at around 3.35pm on Friday, January 13.

Police are now appealing for anyone who thinks they saw the van with the men in it in the area at around that time or anyone acting suspiciously.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Bill Bye at Romsey Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Somebody somewhere knows who these freaks are and they need to be caught before they hurt someone's child. If your kids aren't safe walking home from school, then when are they?

Bloody hell that is a stone throw away from where I live and I thought North Baddesley was a safe area how wrong can you be.

Poor girl, will probably take her a long time to recover from this terrifying ordeal.
But having said that these perverts HAVE to be caught before they "up the ante" so to speak . God only knows what the next victim could go through.

As the story says, an unusual attack, and we can only hope that the perpetrators, if not caught, are at least dissuaded from making any further approaches.

How fortunate that this young girl, based on only momentary glimpses and despite her obvious fear for her safety, was able to provide such detailed descriptions of the men- although I suspect some of the information (such as the height of the seated driver) was more likely prompted by Police interrogation than remembered.

I feel sick, my daughter is usually at that exact point at that time on a school day, but that particular day I had met her in Romsey. I am soooo relieved!!! This must be one of the girls that gets her bus, but she hasn't mentioned anything.

I think it's important these fiends are found and bought to justice. This could of been a lot worse and a families life ruined. There must of been eye witnesses. If they can attack a school girl in broad day light what else are they capable of? Drugs must be involved, this requires immediate attention by the police and local authorities. Absolutely disgusting.

I would be very surprised if there were no witnesses, as it is usually busy along that road with parents returning from collecting children from the infant and junior schools. Also it is a road edged with houses so someone must have seen or heard something. I have never worried about my daughter walking back from the bus, because it is a busy road and there are always at least 3 of them that get off of the same bus (it is a school bus) and walk the same route home. Seems odd if it was not witnessed.

I am so glad that my husband still collects our 12 yr old from school in the car - many times people have said "let him walk he will be fine", but you never know do you? Hope they catch the scumbags soon and that the girl is not too traumatised.

i think thats a bit obvious. From the observations made it wouldnt be hard to ascertain the race of someone through a van window. I am sure a momentary glance would confirm or deny this, as for the height. if someone has chased her and wrestled her to the floor, i think she is more than capable of having an idea of the height.

I think the main point is the girl. Poor child must have been terrified, unreal people come on here questioning a childs recap of a horrific moment in her life!

My daughter walks that route, total scum bags and need to be erased from our society!

Nothing has been mentioned to the children at the school the girl attends, and all the girls that get that bus walked back from it this evening as per usual. Would appear that the event hasn't had the impact suggested. Otherwise why is this child still walking from the bus without an adult?! If it had been my daughter I would have been meeting her from the bus!

Fully accepting this is a serious incident I would say that the emphasis is that they will / would stick out like black pony tails rather than more un-noticeable sore thumbs.
Not all black guys in North Baddesley wear pony tails, the odds of seeing two together would be extremely high, so the chances are they will be quickly apprehended ( the sooner the better) and once again the streets of North Baddesley will be safe.

True, and you would assume that (although the story does not say as much) the school have made all parents aware of potential dangers here.

As I said, we haven't been told anything, but unless the school is notified they won't know anyway!! and, in all fairness, it was outside of school time and nowhere near the school. Just thought the parent/guardian of the child involved would have felt it important to warn others via the school.

To be honest, if the police were called, then surely it should have been someones duty to make people aware of it! I am annoyed the fact it happened friday and noone mentions it until now. It ended up being told by the echo, why couldnt the police or someone have notified them friday when it happened, that way saturdays echo would have had it in and all the parents would have been aware of it.

erngun, extra plod deployed to North Baddesley on a Friday evening or night would be a miracle whatever the urgency. They would be more concerned to working their pre-arranged overtime covering all the drunkards problems in Southampton and Eastleigh, sign of the times, nobody wants to work over the weekend anymore and the employers want to pay out as less as possible.

I live in north baddesley and my 11 year old daughter was approached on the way to school on a Friday in November, a man was sat in a black car and asked her to stop and approach him. Luckily she was on a bike and had enough sense not to stop. I reported it that day and gave all the information i had, it took the police 8 DAYS to come round and speak to my daughter. They were here for 5 minutes and didn't even ask again for a description. (I asked more questions than they did). My daughter spoke to the school the same day and was told not to worry about it and that he had probably wanted directions from her. Parents in year 6 have started to let their children walk to school in preparation for senior school and the juniors didn't feel it would have been prudent to let them know what had happened. A very similar incident happened in Bassett, which is just outside our catchment area, in September last year which also involved a black car and a white van but the police told me that that wasn't local when discussing what happened with my daughter! They are finally camped outside the school this morning, what's it going to take before its taken seriously?

I reported a suspicious vehicle in my area before this incident. Beforehand I had noted as much information as quickly as possible about the vehicle as well as the two occupants. I then checked the vehicle details on the DVLA website- vehicle enquiries, to make sure I had the correct details before phoning the law.I also noticed on the website the tax disc was expiring after one more day. After giving the details which they acknowledged, they called me back to say they had no record of the vehicle. On checking the DVLA site later, the details had been removed.
My mind boggles as to what is going on, just how do they expect to solve crime with unreliable information systems. The suspects may have been using false or cloned plates, I'm not to know. When I mentioned this to the police again they indicated that they had no interest in making any further enquiries. Too much bother I ask.

Read it earlier on another site. Very disappointing especially as there was the lad in Shirley recently that lied about having his Blackberry mobile taken in a robbery. How much police time and resources are wasted?!

What is it with kids nowadays??? Doesn't she realise the effect her lies of had on other children?? I have been telling my daughter to be ultra careful, just in case it was true, and she has been unduly anxious about nothing! I have a very good idea who the girl is, but she should be made an example of, even if only in school assembly. They seem to get away with everything now!

well whether she lied or not romsey police where parked outside north baddesley juniors yesterday morning watching the children go in to school, but seemed it more important to pull my partner over and tell him that he had a brake light out! When my partner said sorry and he would then sort the brake light out they then said they were pulling all vans over, even though his was red and he is white!!!!!!! The police are Romsey police are useless!!!!

To be honest the police where more interested stopping my partner for a brake light than bothering with there inquires, said they were pulling all vans over even though my partners is red and he is white!!!!!! If the girl did lie and i think i know who she is then she did for a reason! maybe a cry for help, some attention, maybe she hasn't had the best life.

Me neither- the description of the incident was far too good (including the height of the sitting driver), the incident happened in broad daylight (or didn't) on a busy street, there were no witnesses. Hence my comments on Tuesday- I saw this coming a mile off.

I know our Police aren't recruited for their intelligence, but surely even THEY must have smelled a rat here? No, instead they coddle and coach this girl to provide a preposterous story and bother the public generally.

Pixie, no, it doesnt- it happens once in a blue moon, sweetie.

And we would make kids a lot safer by convincing them not to lie about things, would we not?
