A WOMAN has died after a head-on crash between a van and a lorry on a Hampshire road.

The female was a passenger in a Vauxhall Combo travelling towards Romsey town centre on the A3090/A27 Romsey bypass when it hit a Volvo truck at 2.24pm.

She suffered serious injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall has been taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution, while the lorry driver was unhurt.

The bypass is shut between the Southampton Road roundabout and Palmerston Street roundabout, with a diversion in place via The Hundred.

It is expected that the road will remain closed until at least 6pm.
