TESCO’S desire to build a store on the Broadlands Estate will be the hot topic of discussion at an upcoming meeting in Romsey .

It will be the main item on the agenda of the Romsey Forum and all interested parties have been invited to attend the meeting and present their point of view at Romsey Town Hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Tesco wants to build a supermarket and 400-space car park on a six-acre site, known as Fairground Field.

Romsey mayor and councillor Mark Cooper, chairman of the forum, said residents living in Romsey were automatically members of the forum and all were welcome to attend and have their say.

Cllr Cooper said he hoped that by that time there might be more detail about Tesco’s plans for them to discuss with a planning application set for this month.

Representatives for Tesco, Richard Jordan-Baker, director of estates at Broadlands, as well as the Say No To Broadlands Tesco group and members of STAR (Supporting Tesco At Romsey) have all been invited.

What is there to debate? Planning Application has been handed in, Public opinion won't change what ever decision the planners make.

I believe it is a legal/moral requirement to have an open meeting, but the decision has probably already been made.

....And the planning decision will be made regardless of public opinion, too!
