ALMOST 50 tourism businesses have picked up nationally-accredited food awards.
The restaurants, cafes, pubs, farm shops and hotels from across County Durham were awarded ‘Taste Durham’ status by assessors from Quality in Tourism.
The prizes were handed out during a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel, in Durham City, on Monday (January 28) attended by celebrity chef Martin Blunos.
The Saturday Kitchen star said: “Schemes such as this are to be congratulated. Having held two Michelin Stars for 17 years, I’m well aware of the need for quality and how valuable it can be to have this quality acknowledged.
“Everyone involved, in organising and participating, should be very proud of these achievements.”
More than half of the businesses honoured were awarded the top Highest Quality Assured status. Additionally, half were awarded Local Produce Champion status.
