Bank Holiday sunshine ensured it was thirsty work for all those taking part in the 2013 Otley Stretcher Race.
The annual fundraising event saw teams dressing up in fancy dress on Monday, May 6, and carrying ‘patients’ around a route that included most of the town’s pubs.
Organised to raise money for Cancer Research UK, this year’s race was won by a team from The Old Cock pub, while The Junction Inn’s team took the prize for best fancy dress.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who turned up to support the event, said: “The sun shone on the race and it was a great day, raising money for Cancer Research UK and supporting the town’s pubs. Well done to Lyn and Aaron for their hard work organising the event, and to all the teams who took part – especially to The Junction’s team for winning the best fancy dress and, of course, to The Old Cock for winning it this year.”
The race requires each team – made up of four carriers and a patient – to stop and have a drink at every pub on the route.
