A SOUTHAMPTON community will be coming together to celebrate the end of a month-long religious festival on Saturday, August 2.

The Ropewalk Community Centre is holding an Eid Festival throughout the day when hundreds of millions of people across the world end the month-long daytime fast known as Ramadan.

With a few days left of Ramadan still to go, the community centre is already planning on opening its doors to the people of Southampton to celebrate the end of the month. Visitors to the Derby Road centre can look forward to henna tattoo painting, food stalls, enter-tainment and free activities from 11am to 6pm.

Ramadan begins and ends with the sighting of the crescent moon, which this year is due on Monday.

The event also coincides with celebrating 50 years of Southampton as a city.
