IT’S a family affair at the port for two generations of one family, who not only live together but work together too.
Vanessa and Dave Smith, and their son Danny, who live near Romsey, have clocked up 36 years of service between them.
Vanessa, a VTS clerk in the harbour master’s office, has worked at the port for two years. Her role involves the rostering of all marine personnel, assisting the port hydrographer with licensing and collating survey data and helping the deputy harbour master with collecting information and contracts.
Her husband, Dave, is a water network coordinator and has worked at the port for over 33 years.
Dave is responsible for the site’s water network, including the mains and meter reading services.
If there’s an issue Dave is on hand, providing plumbing maintenance for the ABP site and its tenanted buildings.
The couple’s son, Danny, has been an IT service desk analyst for just over a year.
The service desk is the first point of contact for all IT support to the 21 ABP ports throughout the country.
